Good thing we weren't in a boat. :P
It officially feels like summer should be here. Now. It's sunny and beautiful outside, I'm so ready to be finished teaching, the kids are ready to be done, too, and are starting to go a little squirrley, and this weekend I got a little taste of what I want to spend a whooole lot of time this summer doing: camping!
I went with my friend Michael, who goes camping a lot and is set up with all the gear. We had both had somewhat crazy weeks so he invited me to head up to one of his favourite camping spots in Golden Ears Park, about an hours drive out of Vancouver. We hiked in and set up camp right beside the river underneath a spectacular snow-covered mountain. It was sooo beautiful!
I had heard that there was going to be rain Friday overnight and Saturday morning - exactly the time we were going to be gone - but we went anyway, and Friday night it actually was clear enough to see the stars. There's just something about being out in the middle of nowhere under the stars and falling asleep - in separate tents, don't worry, mom! ;-) - to the sound of the river. Aaahhhhh...
I should really go camping every weekend. It would do my stress level good!

hee hee...'middle of nowhere', Golden Ears Park is where I grew up. well...maybe not the park so much, but yeah-that area. Didn't realize I was such a hick. Just kidding, glad you had fun!! :-)
Haha, Niki, that's hilarious. The area isn't "in the middle of nowhere," (did you grow up in Maple Ridge?) but it doesn't take long in that park to be out in the wilderness!
Yes it isn't the middle of no where, it just feels like it is because there is no one and no sign of civlization around.
You forgot to mention it did rain Saturday and we got pretty wet packing up ;-) It was a great time regardless. Just so good to get away.
We didn't get THAT wet! Waiting out the rain in the tent kept us pretty dry. The tents, on the other hand... well that's another story!
But yes, just like Murphy to let us pack up in the pouring rain only to dry up as soon as we hit the trail again! Oh well, better that than having to hike out in the pouring rain, too. I wouldn't have been as happy of a ...er... camper if it had continued to rain!
Those mountains are gorgeous!!! Glad you had a great time! My husband would be very jealous! Have you heard of or been to Pukaskwa National Park? Or Algonquin Provincial Park?
I know, I know. it's like saying, "hey! I'm from Italy too! Do you know so and so!?!" :)
anyway, glad you had a great time!!
oh, that looks like it was a great trip! now I need to go plan a hike or something - okay, maybe just a walk about Deer Lake - but something!
Hillary-yeah I grew up in MR :-) side note: I e-mailed you, but maybe it went to your spam box?? Can you check? My addy is: nikidev at gmail dot com :)
